THE COMPARISON GAME. STOP COMPARING YOURSELF.
Posted on 26 December 2017
Do you ever find yourself comparing yourself to someone else? Wishing you could look like them or dress like them? We like to think that we don’t but realistically, it is hard not to. It is really easy to get caught up in what someone else has or how they look.
As Women these days, we have some high expectations, which can be pretty daunting at times. There are so many demands to look good. We see images of beautiful celebrities that we look up to and strive to be like. But we fail to remind ourselves that most of these images are not realistic with all of the glamour retouching and Photoshop manipulation that is used in today’s marketing.
Of course, we all want to look good because it gives us confidence and makes us feel good. When I was younger, I really struggled with self-confidence, and was very insecure. I did not have a mother that was very encouraging. In fact, she was quite the opposite which pretty much killed the little self confidence I did have. I was continuously comparing myself to others and ultimately lacking much confidence. I was always trying to mimick how someone else looked or what they were wearing.
The thing is, you will find much more happiness trying to find yourself, than chasing after the image that you think you should be. Each person is unique and we should embrace that. Be confident in who you are as an individual. Find your own personal style and really own it. It would be a pretty boring world if we were all exactly the same. It took me until my mid-twenties to really find myself, my personal style and to really feel good about the person I had chose to become. And now that I have built that confidence, I really don’t care too often what people think.
Bottom line. Do not compare yourself to others. Take some time to find your own personal style and really own it. Here are 5 things you can do to find your own personal style.
EXPERIMENT WITH COLOR.
Finding the right colors that flatter your features can make a big difference in your appearance. You can also experiment with seasonal colors to add some variety to your wardrobe. These are my favorites for fall.
Once you determine your body type, try on lots of different styles of clothes to see which ones flatter you best and then invest in a few of those items to add to your wardrobe. Here are a few of my favorite items that are flattering for all body types.
DON'T WEAR CLOTHES THAT ARE TOO BAGGY.
Women often try to wear baggy clothes to hide their figure but clothes that are too baggy are not flattering and often make make you appear larger than more fitted clothing. You just want to find a good fit. Here is one of my favorites.
DON'T BE AFRAID OF PATTERNS.
Patterns can really add character to your style personality. A big trend right now is florals. I love these looks that you can carry into fall.
FLORAL OFF THE SHOULDER TOP
